KY 536 Corridor Extension Lands on Senator McConnell's Fiscal Year 2027 Funding Request List
Campbell County, KY (May 15, 2026) - Campbell County's KY 536 Corridor Extension has officially been included on U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell's Fiscal Year 2027 Congressionally Directed Spending list, a major win for Campbell County and the Northern Kentucky region. The request seeks $10 million for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to advance one of the most consequential transportation projects in the area.
Judge/Executive Steve Pendery, alongside Commissioners Brian Painter, Tom Lampe, and Geoff Besecker, has championed the KY 536 corridor for years. Judge/Executive Pendery worked tirelessly on the project, partnering with federal, state, and regional leaders to advance it at every stage.
"This is a great day for Campbell County and for every community that will benefit from a stronger, more connected region," said Judge/Executive Steve Pendery. "KY 536 is about jobs, housing, safety, and opportunity. We have a long road ahead, but we are absolutely moving in the right direction."
When complete, the KY 536 Corridor Extension will create a new east-west connection linking Campbell, Kenton, and Boone counties. It will also connect workers in Bracken, Mason, Pendleton, and Robertson counties to major employment centers across Northern Kentucky, including Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and the Northern Kentucky Industrial Park, the largest industrial park on Interstate 75 from Canada to Cuba.
The corridor is expected to reduce traffic congestion on U.S. 27 in the City of Alexandria and ease pressure on Interstate 275, two of the most strained transportation arteries in the region. This builds on the new turn lanes in Alexandria, secured with funding Judge/Executive Pendery championed, to ease congestion on U.S. 27.
The federal request builds on significant state momentum. The 2026-2028 Biennial Highway Construction Plan allocated $14.82 million for the extension of KY 536 (Pond Creek Road) from U.S. 27 to Persimmon Grove, covering right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation through Construction Ready Project (CRP) funding. This funding is part of a $230 million allocation from the Budget Reserve Trust Fund to accelerate projects to construction.
This federal investment could also help unlock future construction support from the Ohio Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments once right-of-way acquisition is complete, accelerating delivery of the corridor's most critical phases.
